I am seeing this more and more often in the entrepreneurial world. In the executive coaching world. In marketing materials, advertising and in the words of influencers and strategists.
Don’t fall for it.
It will do you more harm than good.
Your worth is far beyond anything anyone can pay for…
You are a unique being.
There will only ever be one of you on this planet.
Your genetics make this so. Your experiences make this so. Your perceptions make this so. Your individual energetic signature makes this so. You are unique.
You are precious beyond measure and your worth beyond counting.
To equate worth with wealth or achievements leads to heartbreak, doubt and deep questioning.
It can shake your confidence at the roots if the money does not flow as you would like, your achievements fall short of your expectations, or after all the success you still feel unsatisfied and unfulfilled.
This detrimental advice may prompt you to focus on money…
That is a good thing.
But the damage to your soul and to your ability to grow as a human and build your business, because you have tied money to your self-worth, can be lasting, painful and it will eventually box you up and prevent you reaching your true potential.
Your worth cannot be quantified.
Your worth cannot be calculated.
Your worth cannot be tied to societal ideas about success.
Your worth cannot be tied to expectations around material wealth.
Your worth as an individual human being is far more valuable and important than any constraint you may give it when you tie it into your work in such a way.
It leaves your worth at the whim of the markets, how much you earn in any quarter, how big your house is, how successful you are, how many employees you engage or let go, how many items you sell or clients you have…
This is not healthy.
It is not your worth that you need to get paid for…
It is the value you provide.
Now that value may come from some deeply intrinsic parts of you, parts you consider to be a fundamental aspect of your worth, but it is not your worth they are paying you for…
It is the value you provide to their lives, to their work, to their evolution, to their healing, to their materialistic needs, to their aspirations, to their wants, to their environments…
Never entangle your worth with how much you achieve, how successful you are by society’s standards, or by what you accumulate in your bank accounts. It will only lead to heartbreak, dissatisfaction, and an untethered grief you will carry with you…everywhere.
This does not contribute to a wealthy fulfilling life.
You need to bring in money for the value you provide.
You need to be paid for the service you provide.
You need to be paid for the items you create.
You need to be paid.
You need to be paid well.
I know you want an abundant life.
I know you want a glorious life.
Don’t hijack this by tying your worth to dollars and cents…
You need to get paid (and paid well) for the value that you provide.
But you can never…ever…be paid enough for what you are worth.
